Daryl Kitchin, Brendan Umbers, Faye Richardson, Karina Van Weel
A number of club members followed Daryl to the Drysdale Bowls Club to watch him play as he won through the various rounds through the week. They were treated to a display of first class precision bowling throughout, with Daryl's Quarter Final game against Nathan Bush a nailbiter where Daryl, trailing going into the last end, drew 3 close bowls for the win, which he held after Nathan's two drives failed to connect. On Sunday he returned to play Bryan Wilson in the semi where Daryl had a comfortable win 25/15. Similarly, Brendan Umbers had a good win over John Baker in his Semi, getting into the final against Daryl. This was also a great game with Daryl going into the last end 24/21 up. As fate would have it, in an opposite situation with his game against Nathan, Daryl's running shots just missed Brendan's four shots he was holding which gave Brendan Umbers the win and title of Men's GBR 2020-21 Champion of Champion. Well done.
Congratulations also to the Women's GBR 2020-21 Champion of Champion finalists Faye Richardson and Karina van Weel, with Faye winning the final.
Congratulations to our newest winners of our Club Championships.
On what turned out to be a sunny Sunday afternoon, the finals of the Men's Veterans Singles and the Minor Singles were played, with many members taking the opportunity to watch good bowling.
Alan Sampson met Paul French in the Veteran's battle and Sambo got off to a good lead mastering the wide drawing hand of the synthetic green. Frenchy rallied halfway through and was making up ground, however ran out of ends to catch up with Alan taking the win.
In our Minor Singles final, newcomer Tim Humphries met Peter Hirth with Peter getting the jump on his opponent, winning the first 3 ends and continuing to lead. Tim however managed to pick up a 4 on the 9th end, levelling the score and 8 all. Both players were sharing ends won, but Tim managed to keep his nose in front and pulled away for a 5 shot win. Well done.
Congratulations to our two new Club Champions - Daryl Kitchin and Corry Hooiveld Many members came to watch the battle in our Men's Final and Women's Final of the Club Singles Championship, held Friday 8th January 2021 at 3pm. In the women's, Corry Hooiveld met Effie Wake with Corry getting out to a head start with consistent draw bowling. Effie did rally midway and made up some ground, but Corrie pulled away for the win. Well done. Our two men finalists, Gary Banks and Daryl Kitchin had a much closer game with Daryl scoring the first two ends but then the lead was seesawing between the two almost every end. Gary played consistent bowls to get a nose in front and Daryl was trailing by 3 on the card and down two in the head when he converted to 4 up to even up the scorecard yet again. In the last four ends however he pulled away to snatch the win. Congratulations to Daryl, regaining his crown from last year. Post 8/1/21
The final of the club Women's Pairs (previously delayed) was played with the two finalist pairs of Janice Pekin & Karen Harrington against Karen Wiener & Tracey Bedem.
On a green running well after previous wet days, the game was interrupted with a few passing showers.
Janice & Kas managed to get a jump on their opposition, scoring well in the first few ends & continued to hold their lead, winning well.
Congratulations to Janice and Kas.

The Men's Pairs Championship Semi Finals and Final were played on Sunday 8th November, 2020 on a beautifully running green.
Semi Finalists Andrew Shaw and Joe Issell took on Tim Jenkinson and Robert Grubb. Tim & Robert had played very well against Gary Banks & Alan Sampson to take out a close win in the previous round and continued form getting out to a 7-1 lead. Andrew & Joe came back, winning most of the ends in the second half and getting to within 1 shot going into the last end. However Tim and Robert took the last point to win 13 -11.
In the other Semi Final, Ron Sommerville and Gary Wakefield met Brian Calthorpe and Paul French. Ron and Gary were a little slower to adjust to the fast running green and despite rallying a little at the end, Brian and Frenchy were too good, winning 17 - 10.
In the Final Brian and Paul continued their good form against Tim and Robert who were within striking distance toward the end but dropped a couple of multiples in the last few ends putting it out of reach. Well done to Brian Calthorpe and Paul French.
