The last of our Club Championships have been played. The Mixed Pairs Grand Final was delayed due to players away at the Vic Open and was played on the morning of Presentation Day. The pair of Eileen Williams and Brett Irvine prevailed against Karen & Wally Wiener after a consistent campaign .
The Open Triples was completed after Presentation Day with the trio of Geoff Grigg, Vin O'Flaherty and Don Mariager as skip getting through to the Grand Final against Peter Forbes, Dan Tudor and (repl.) Russell Symons. It was the Russell led team who came away with the win.
Well done to everyone Post 09/04/2023
The winner of our Club Veteran's Singles, Vin O'Flaherty has been playing in the GBR Champion of Champion Vet's Singles. He has won through the knockout rounds to earn a spot in the Grand Final which was played today Friday 24th March 2023 at Ocean Grove Bowls Club. A number of club members went to give him support and witnessed a great display of bowling by Vin and his opponent, Barry Hirth of Portarlington. The scores were level a number of times, with both players holding game on a couple of occassions. On the last end, with Vin holding game, Barry converted to hold the winning shots himself, but Vin put down his last bowl to trail jack & secure the 2 shots he needed. Congratulations.
Our Women's Veterans champion, Ro Porter also played in the Women's event, winning through to the Quarter Final where she lost to Bev Kingsbury of Clifton Springs 19-21. Post 24/03/2023
The finals of the Open 100up Handicap Singles were played on Sunday 19th February, 2023. The Semi Final was held in the morning with Con Papastergiou playing Robert Milesi. Both players made a game of it with Rob trailing most of the game with a 20 handicap shot difference to make up. In fact it was on what was the third last end after scoring a 9 to go from 84-86 to 93 to 87 that Rob got ahead and continued on to take the game. Well played by both players.
In the Grand Final at 1pm, Rob took on Ro Porter who had a walkover in the previous round. Again Rob had a 20 shot deficit to make up and made slower work of it with Ro getting the upper hand in the scoring. However more consistent bowling overall saw Rob Milesi draw level at 70-70 and go from there to win. Congratulations

The finals of the Open Minor Singles were played on Sunday 29th January, 2023. The Semi Finals were held in the morning with Marnie Last playing Jade Morvell and David Pritchard playing Gordon Stevenson. In persistent very light drizzle, it was Jade and Gordo who prevailed, earning them a spot in the Grand Final. In the afternoon game, still in light mist/drizzle it was Gordon who opened with scores in the first two ends. Jade then took the next three. It was close throughout the match with a good display of bowling skill, however Jade pulled away to win after a thrilling end of Gordon driving at Jade's shot bowls but with the jack going forward it was Jade who had the shot he needed. Congratulations

The finals of the Men's & Women's Veterans Singles Championship were played in the morning on Friday 27th January, 2023. With perfect bowling weather, albeit with a bit of an inconsistent breeze, spectators were treated to a great display of bowls skill. In the Men's, Alan Sampson, the reigning champ, took on Vin O'Flaherty and was dominant at the start, leading 12-6 on the 13th end despite both bowling well. Vin however posted a count of 3 and then 2 to close the gap and was leading 14-13 on the 18th end. Scores were close to what was the final end on the 30th with Vin bagging 2 shots to win 21-20. The Women's was also a close match with Elaine Rosser getting out to an early lead. Ro Porter, last year's Vets champ was in fact never in the lead through to the 19th end despite closing the gap. It was in the final ends however that Ro managed to score multiples to take the lead at 16-15 and close out the game, winning 21-15. Well done to all.
Our two champs, Vin and Ro will go on to compete in the GBR Champion of Champion Veterans Singles, to be played 15th to 17th March, 2023. Good luck.

Our Men's & Women's Singles Club Championship was finalised on Friday 16th December, 2022. Due to a clash with GBR Championships, the Women's had a catchup Semi Final to play in the morning, with Eileen Williams playing Kas Harrington. Tiger got off to a solid start, drawing shots which counted on the card and getting the early lead. However Kas caught up and on the 8th end scores were 6 all and then she held the lead until the 21st end where Eileen drew level at 16 all. Each player then shared ends with scores level at 17 all, 19 all and 20 all. Kas won the last 3 ends, winning 25-20. In the 3pm final, Kas took on Sandra Skene which saw a match highlighting both players skills and was down to the wire with either player poised for a win. It was Kas however who managed to bag a count of 4 when the score was 18-19 and although scores levelled yet again held enough shots in the next few ends to win 25-23. Congratulations to Kas on retaining the title and posting her 7th Singles Championship win. **************************************** Spectators were also treated to another display of great bowling skills with Daryl Kitchin taking on Alan Sampson. It was Daryl who got off to a flying start posting 2 shots for 4 of the first 5 ends. However Alan found form to outdraw Daryl or play conversions and caught up on the 10th end at 11all. He then dominated the scoring, winning 25-16. Congratulations to Sambo, who last won in 2017-18 and now adds another to his tally, making it also his 7th Singles Championship win.

The first Championship games to be completed were the Men's Club Pairs and the Women's Club Pairs. On Sunday 23rd October, 2022 the Men played the semi final, with the Grand Final played in the afternoon. Semi-finalists Joe Issell, who had partnered with Andy Shaw, played with substitute Peter Barnes and was bettered by the pair of Brian Calthorpe and Paul French. In the other Semi, Ashley Prosser & Brett Irvine had a very close match with Tim Jenkinson & Daryl Kitchin who were the pair to win through. The Grand Final saw TJ & Daryl win against Brian Calthorpe & Frenchy. ************************* In the women's, the Semi finalists were Janice Pekin & Kas Harrington, beaten on the day by Corry Hooiveld & Sandra Skene. Elaine Rosser & Lauryn Plant had a close game against last year's winner Gill Pritchard & Karen Wiener who just got their nose in front at the end. The Grand Final, played on Thursday 27th October, a sunny/calm/rainy/windy day which tested the players and it was the Gill/Karen pair who raced out of the blocks keeping their opposition scoreless until the 7th end. As it does so often in bowls, the tide turned and Corry/Sandra regained their touch, storming to victory and allowing Gill & Karen to score only a single shot in the second half of the game. **************************** Post 27/10/2022
